Color Voodoo publications are not available in print due to the extremely high cost of color printing for books with as many illustrations as these. The price would be far too expensive (at least $50 per book) for our customers.
We had two choices:
Keep them affordable and offer them as e-books on CD & download .... or delete half the illustrations and offer printed versions. The author believes that it's not possible to present critical information about color without visual explanations. (And the books have been applauded for the fact that they make color concepts so understandable.) We will continue to investigate the situation and hope that technology will eventually allow for more affordable printing. In the meantime, you can always print them out.
Here's what one of customers has to say about the issue of print versus online publishing:
"Thank you for creating such a stunning product as the Color Voodoo books. I've long been a collector of books and information about color. As both a graphic designer (25 years) and graphic design, electronic publishing, digital imaging instructor, I have run into many of the same problems you have with finding practical, good quality, affordable material.
Your decision to go with a computer file rather than a printed book is absolutely the right one. Our personal libraries have many of the same books. One of the Itten books I own has color blocks that look like every ink was mixed with mud before it was printed on the page. Being able to view colors on screen with both the RGB and hex codes is visually satisfying and enormously practical. " Bev Kerns
Here's a comment from the author:
One of my main concerns is color accuracy. Since the books were created in a computer and are viewed in a computer, the same colors system translates the color. This is the RGB (red, green, blue) system and includes a very large gamut of 30,000,000 colors. In other words, all the illustrations use RGB and your computer and monitor uses the same RGB system.
Printed publications use the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) color system, which does not have as large a color gamut. In fact many colors lack the purity and brilliance of the RGB system. Although vivid colors can be achieved at a very high price, this would have been cost-prohibitive.
My purpose in writing these books is to make the information accessible at an affordable price.
Electronic books are similar to a text document with pictures. Since Color Voodoo was created on a computer using computer colors, you'll get very accurate colors at a fraction of the cost of a printed book. And you can always print a hard copy version as well! An added bonus is that navigation is much easier than a typical printed book. Instead of manually searching through a table of contents, indexes, and flipping through numbered pages, you have immediate access to pictorial thumbnails, bookmarks and clickable links. This makes finding things a delight.
We regret that the books are not available in printed form. Most of the books contain more illustrations than words. Consequently, the cost of printing is so high. We've chosen to keep them affordable and not sacrifice the quantity and quality of the illustrations.

Occasionally, a nasty glitch will occur. It's not a happy time if it happens to you. Sometimes the server takes a short nap, very rarely our shopping basket chokes on itself. Occasionally there are network outages on the Internet. Like all web sites, we're dependent on several nodes on the Internet infrastructure. In April 2000, one of these nodes went on the blink for a few hours. These mechanical problems are beyond our control.... and we tear our hair out when it happens. It doesn't happen very often but if you do encounter a problem, and if you'd like to order immediately, you can link to a faxable order form . Please print it out, manually fill in and fax to us. In any event, please
. We will find a way to help and solve the problem.
The good news is that there are no shipping costs if you order the downloadable versions. The other good news is that we are able to process credit cards issued outside of the U.S. The only bad news is that occasionally our credit card -address verification system has a problem with zip codes outside of the U.S. In most cases the order does go through even though you may receive a message that it didn't. Please
us if you encounter any problems. We're usually able to manually process the order.
Do you offer discounts on quantity orders?
Do you offer site licenses for multiple users?
We have special prices for group purchases, especially for educational institutions. Similar to site licenses for software, discounts depend on the number of workstations. If the publication is installed on 10-20 computers, the discount for the total number of books is approximately 15 -25%. Higher discounts apply to larger quantities. We'll also apply this same discount to group orders for more than 10 individuals. Please email us for specific quotes.
